COLOR GUARD TRYOUTS

19 January 2010

Greetings!
*
I am excited to annouce that there will be Color Guard Tryouts for the 2010 CG team.
The tryouts will be held at the Coral Springs Charter School from 1800-2100.
There will be five areas in which the Cadets will be examined: Mile Run, Inspection, Command Calling, Written Examination, and Interview.
Prior to the tryouts the cadets are required to have their parent/guardian sign and return the "Understanding of Commitment" Form below.  CG is a huge commitment and both the parents/guardians must understand that as the time for the competition gets closer the intensity and frequency of the practices will increase.
100 points can be awarded for Mile Run, Command Calling, Written Examination, and Interview totaling 400 points.  The Inspection is worth 150 points.  The grand total of avaiable points is 550.  The six cadets with the highest scores will be invited to the team.
Although six cadets will be invited to the team, only five cadets will compete.  Four members and an alternate.  The procedures for releasing the sixth member will be discussed in the interview.
Practices:
Practices will be held every other week for one day a week for the months of February and March.  Practices in the months of April and May will be once a week, every week, including one Saturday a month.  Practices in June and July will be twice a week, every week, including one Saturday a month.  Practices in August and up to the Competition will be three times a week, every week, including one Saturday a month.
*
Position on Team:
The cadet's position on the team will not be determined until the May-June practices.  Just becuase you were a certain position last year, does not mean that you will remain in that position.  For instance, Cadet John Doe was the CG Commander last year, but becuase of his motivation, dedication and work ethic, he is now the alternate becuase Cadets 1, 2, 3, and 4 have proven that they want the job more than Cadet Doe.  The harder working cadets will be rewarded accordingly.  Ultimately, the cadets will be placed in positions that best suit the team.
